Believed Something That Isn’t So Lately?
Which reminds me of a site you’ve probably seen before: SNOPES specializes in e-mails that sound true but aren’t. So, if you haven’t been there lately, why not check out SNOPES’s “Hottest 25 Legends” and see what isn’t true this week. HOW TO SPOT A LIAR ENTREPRENEUR.COM says you do it like this:
http://biz.yahoo.com/entrepreneur/071018/ WHY WE DO DUMB OR IRRATIONAL THINGS JEREMY DEAN takes us on a conducted tour through “10 of the most influential social psychology studies.” Then we choose the one we think is most important. Believe me, there are no easy answers to this one – simply because the studies give so many insights as to why we do dumb and irrational things. This site can be of real service during an election year. If you have relatives or friends who are, for no good reason, planning to vote for someone who is AN IDIOT WHO WILL SEND THE COUNTRY, AND THE WORLD, INTO A HOPELESS DOWNWARD SPIRAL, check out the reasons for doing utterly stupid things, as revealed by this site. They should make you feel better. I do not, however, recommend revealing this information to misguided loved ones. They will probably not take it in the purely scientific spirit you would of course intend.
http://www.spring.org.uk/2007/11/ SUFFERINGS OF THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY. The situation of the hapless British royals is a study in mass psychology, about people joyfully believing things about them that aren’t so. And, as it happens, some things that are so. Remember the man who climbed into the Queen’s bedroom early one morning? She naturally rang for her guards, while engaging the intruder in tactful, monarchial conversation. The guards didn’t come. They were out walking the dogs. Sounds like something that would have happened to the White Queen, but, no, it happened to this one. You will not, however, find the episode in the monarchy’s official site, listed below. Pity. WHO DOES QUEEN ELIZABETH’S HAIR? Well, you won’t find it on the official site of the British monarchy. The site is actually quite boring, and I believe they intended it to be. The British royal family is thoroughly sick of screaming headlines about their activities. For their take on things: http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page1.asp But the royal family now have their own channel on YOUTUBE! And they have done their best to make it interesting, though not, of course, TOO interesting: http://www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel And here’s an unofficial video, with a livelier beat, about Prince William and Prince Harry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33n6IgoSn3w&feature=related You’ll observe that, off to the right, is a large fan club cluster about the two young princes, which is where the royal action lies right now. |
