Parental Controls For Computers, Computer Games

Your child’s computer needs the four safety devices covered at the beginning of this archive’s Identity Theft section – needs them at least as much as your computer does, and probably more, as your child is more likely to spend time at the popular social sites that are also popular with criminal hackers. Kids should know how to scan with their antispyware programs and should do computer scans on a regular basis. Plus, your child needs a fifth protection: In my Identity Theft section called, “See Spyware Coming Before It Hits,” I recommend either McAfee Site Advisor. SITE ADVISOR will let you and your child know when you’ve hit an unsafe website – and some unsafe sites are in places you’d never expect them to be! Here’s an example:

KIDS’ FREEWARE THAT COMES WITH SPAM

Last year I did a piece on the KIDSDOMAIN software programs that children and parents could download for free. Now I find my McAfee Site Advisor program has the site red-flagged, as they got “6 spammy e-mails” the week after they signed up there. It is a very commercialized site, and I suppose 6 spammy e-mails aren’t the end of the world, but they aren’t good either. My Firefox browser also blocked two popups on the site.

So, the selection is still absolutely wonderful, but of course you don’t want to sign up with KIDSDOMAIN. Just enjoy the downloads and run.
