Adventure Vacations And Walking Tours
FIND WALKING COMRADESHIP Sandra Barnes tells me that she and her husband belong to the Winston Wanderers VOLKSMARCH CLUB. She says, “There are clubs in every state, often more than one in a state, who maintain over 1,400 Volksmarch trails in the U.S. There are many more in Canada and overseas.” Anyone wanting to learn more can go to the website of the AMERICAN VOLKSSPORT ASSOCIATION: Using the site’s left column you can find a walking club near you. You’ll also notice a link on that site to “Tater Tours,” which buses you to scenic U.S. spots, whereupon you of course walk. Sandra says she’s really enjoyed the tours she’s taken. Plus you’ll find a link to Walking Adventures, which she also praises highly. WALKING ADVENTURES I’d consider it exciting to take a walking tour of France or Italy. But these people list walking tours of Beijing and the Great Wall of China, Central America, Australia/New Zealand, and Iceland. They generally bus you to an interesting site, and after that you walk. 36,000 MILES ON FOOT The GOLIATH EXPEDITION is no vacation, to tell the truth, but this is the best section I could find for it. THE GOLIATH EXPEDITION “is the first expedition ever to attempt to forge a path of unbroken footsteps from the southern tip of South America back to England without using any form of transport. Karl Bushby, whose idea and dream became this expedition, will take no fewer than 12 years and 36,000 miles to traverse some of the most remote and challenging places on earth.” He’s already gone from the tip of South America to the top of Alaska. Russia comes next – and then, when he hits Romania, I think he’s in for some surprises. (See next item.) KARL BUSHBY’s journey is being covered by the BBC. Here are the GOLIATH EXPEDITION videos produced so far: http://goliath.mail2web.com/Video/ |
