INTERNET RESOURCES
The Internet contains a vast amount of free information, and the amount grows day by day. Google has scanned whole great libraries into its data collection, and many websites try to collect “all human knowledge” in their particular area of expertise. I’ve started this section with the more accessible and enjoyable resources, working down to the vast scholarly resources online. Thanks to these vast quantities of research and reference material, a high school student in rural Idaho now has access to more information than many university libraries contained a few decades ago. Information overload is a serious problem for anyone doing online research. The section below on Research Tools offers high-quality resources that may be of help in weeding out excess material. The Google Directories in the next-to-last section can also be a help if they happen to have a directory on the area being researched. You’ll find more listings of specialized search engines in the Computers & Technology section, under “Internet Search On Steroids.”
