IDENTITY THEFT, ONLINE SAFETY

     Most people figure that, if they’ve got an antivirus program sitting on their computers, they are safe from harm. Not so! You can get tagged with spyware that takes over your computer while you are minding your own business at YouTube, MySpace, or a popular shopping site.

     Even so, you need just four things to operate a computer safely and foil online predators:

     1. Good antispyware;

     2. A firewall that foils keyloggers;

     3. Automatic patches from Microsoft;

     4. An antivirus program.

     You can get good, free firewalls and antivirus protection, and automatic patches are also free from Microsoft. You can get free antispyware too, but, because I don’t want my identity stolen, I strongly prefer to get the BEST antispyware. The best costs only $40 and includes antivirus as well. In later sections, I’ll tell you why and how to get all four kinds of protection.
