If You’re In Serious Trouble

IN SERIOUS FINANCIAL TROUBLE?

     I know a family who was in big trouble. I urged them to go to the nonprofit CONSUMER CREDIT COUNSELING SERVICE (CCCS), which works with people and their creditors. They went, told me that the CCCS charges $30 a month, which they thought they couldn’t afford, and they opted out.

     Now their home has been foreclosed upon, their credit ruined, and they’re living in a family member’s basement. From what I know of that family’s finances, the CCCS could probably have kept them from that foreclosure. In fact, the CCCS proudly says it is able to keep 70 percent of its clients from foreclosure. When you consider that most people are in deep trouble by the time they arrive, that’s an amazing record.

     FREDDIE MAC has also put onto YouTube a video for borrowers who are in danger of losing their homes. There are some vicious scams out there, preying on troubled people.

REPAIR BAD CREDIT

     Many unfortunate people have gone under financially during the recent mortgage crisis, and they must live with the situation. So I put “repair bad credit” into the Google searchbox, and the alligators came swarming up out of the muck, jaws wide open and teeth gleaming. There’s a LOT of scum in that swamp! I was looking for an honest organization that would help a family who honestly wanted to repair bad credit.
