The author of SHAWNANIGANS wanted to read the classics to her children, but her voice gave out. This entry tells of good, free audio books for children.

“TOP 100 FREE AUDIO BOOKS.” The audio books on BOOKS SHOULD BE FREE are all older books, no longer under copyright. If you poke around, you’ll find a number of classics, such as Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The ones I looked at were available in both audio MP3 form and in text files that can be printed out. These audios would therefore be ideal for people learning English as a second language. I haven’t listened to them, though, and can’t tell you whether the readers’ accents are British or American, which would make a difference to many people learning English as second language. Judging from the selection of books, I’m guessing British.

Also, if you’re interested in recent audio books, let me mention that your local library probably has a fine selection you can check out. Bill likes to do that; he listens to them while he’s driving.
